Know about correct usages of Will and Would

       If you know the correct place to use will and would, you can make your article impactful. Irrespective of any form of article writing, you need to use future indicating sentences.  I have experienced that most of the writers generally ignore the correct usages of will and would. They just use these words to depict the activities to be done in future.  But you should know that your words are the generator of power. The more and better use of words determines the more numbers of your readers.  Do practice mastering over the usages of will and would.

      Before you start diving deeper, you should know that both words come under auxiliary Modal verbs. Modal verbs are those which are used to denote the changes in the remaining portion of the sentence. Basically, would is the past form of Will. These words don’t have their meanings but assist in making senses of the other words, being used in the sentences.  Usage of these words at an appropriate place can provide a sound image of yours.  Let’s know that at which places we should use them to make our article perfect:-

Use of Will

When you are sure

At most of the times, our views, our desires for future actions are clear.  We know that at a certain time, we have to do the job.  In this case, we can use Will as it shows conformity of our future action. Have an example “I will visit your office and hand over the documents”.  This line shows our commitment that on a certain time; we will carry out the action.  In undermentioned cases, we use modal verbs:-

  • Quick decisions – “In my view, I will move by Car instead of a taxi”.
  • Promises  – “I will complete the assignment by tomorrow”.
  • Prediction – “I will give you a treat if she doesn’t make her promise”.
  • Offers  – “I will extend my support in early finalization of the job”.

In case, you are describing any situations that are impossible to change, you can use Will to make a deeper emphasis on the readers. Like, “ In case of late office closing, you will inform the boss well in advance”.  Or, “If you absence reflected more than thrice a month, you will face a Show Cause Notice”.

In universal situations

Will is also used as a conditional word.  Suppose, you are addressing someone regarding universal matters, use of “Will” is obvious.  Like, “If you give up, someone else will be assigned for this job”.   In other words, you can say that Will is present form of the modal verb to predict something for the future, only in case of conformity. 

Use of Would

Would is past form of Will. This form of a modal verb can be express to denote various conditions like:-

  • Invitations                           – “What would you prefer to wear on Monday, formal or casual”?
  • Requests                               –  “Would you help me in designing this project”?
  • Permission asking             –   “Would you allow your kid to go on a picnic”?
  • Discussing preferences   – “This would be my first choice to get leave”.
  • Managing arrangements – “This would be the best time that suffices my requirements”.

        Many smart content writers use would as supporting word when they write statements of third conditional scenario. Normally, these words are utilized to depict the conditions which are not real.  Often the situations can be imaginary.  Such situations depict the past activities, which are only in our imaginations and not on the ground.  Like, “If I would have been a king, I could implement the quick and easy justice in the entire state”.  This sentence shows that neither a person was king nor implemented what he imagined.  This is just an imagination.  In such cases, you need to express the emotions with the help of “Would”.

You are advised to use these words according to the nature of sentence construction. Better usages of these words will establish you as a sound writer.  Before final publishing, make a proofread of what is written to ensure the narration doesn’t have any grammatical deficit.

In nutshell, you can say that both the words can be used to express the statements which are based on conditional scenarios.  Though, both words are modal verbs and add meaning to the words connecting before and after.
